Pupil Experience

Over the course of each year, our Careers programme includes a wide range of activities for all students from years 7 to 11+

We deliver this through:

  • Assemblies

  • 1:1 coaching, which all pupils benefit from both for pastoral support now and to help them think through future aspirations

  • Employer encounters

  • Workplace experiences

  • Enterprise activities, such as running a stall at a Christmas market

GRK's most recent and most exciting enterprise project has involved the complete refurbishment of an old horsebox into a fabulous state of the art mobile cafe! Watch this space to see how we will be putting the horsebox to use in our local community!

Broadening Horizons

In the lower school, Years 7 to 9, pupils are helped to gain a broad understanding of the wide range of careers that exist and different entry routes, such as through college or apprenticeships. As their thinking develops, they are supported by their coach, through specific careers focussed lessons and enrichment activities, such as visits to workplaces and inviting visitors into the school. Throughout all we do, pupils are also supported in developing their employability skills, such as teamwork and communication, that are so essential in every workplace.

Transitions

Once in Years 10 and 11, pupils are supported in thinking more seriously about post -16 transitions into college, apprenticeships or work. We have benefited from visits by the team from Amazing Apprenticeships, with pupils in Year 11 also receiving independent careers advice. Pupils are helped to gain suitable work experience with local employers in areas of potential interest. Each year, members of staff take pupils to visit colleges and other training providers, for open days and/or bespoke tours.

GRC - The Green Room College

Our college provision is based at The Swan in Clewer, an 18th century pub which is now owned and being renovated by the local community.

The Swan offers a unique setting for pupils to continue their education, gain useful skills and become part of their community. GRC pupils are based in the upstairs School House and IT suite but do have access to all the different areas of The Swan to foster engagement and promote learning. Lessons can be in the School House, the IT suite, the ground floor of the Coach House or even in the Courtyard.

Our unique home provides fantastic opportunities for our college students to engage with the community, develop skills relevant to employment and create their own enterprise initiatives. Students are given opportunities to engage with work experience opportunities in house that are fully supported by staff. Our Epic Thursday events provide the perfect opportunity to develop skills in the hospitality and catering sector.
