The Green Canteen

The Green Room School is putting food on the table at The Swan!

While The Swan's kitchen is being upgraded, GR6 pupils and staff are launching an exciting new project to provide pub-goers with some warm, delicious, freshly-cooked food.

The idea is simple. On Thursday nights at The Swan during term time, a low-cost, wholesome meal will be made in our school’s kitchen and delivered to the pub by pedal power as soon as it's ready, and served directly to your table in The Swan.

Having completed a successful taster evening of ‘The Green Canteen’, where a packed Swan was served chicken or paneer curry, cooked fresh in The Green Room’s professional kitchen and delivered by express bicycle couriers from Albert Street, staff and pupils will be launching the project to the public on Thursday 27th February.

The idea behind The Green Canteen is not only to provide great meals to guests of The Swan whilst the pub’s kitchen is under renovation, but also to provide opportunities for our pupils to gain experience in various areas of work. Pupils working for The Green Canteen will help prepare, cook, deliver, serve and clean, giving them a broad and supported insight into hospitality and catering. Also as a business and enterprise project, they will learn about finance, advertising, marketing and branding.

So, starting this week, Thursday evenings, term time only, 5-8pm, The Green Canteen will be running. For menu and booking details please visit our site

(Please note that due to the size of our school kitchen we are only able to cater for 30 people each evening so pre-order quick to secure a place!)
